The simple word of "budget" can strike fear in the hearts of many. But, it is essential to gain mastery over your time and money to become successful according to Napoleon Hill, in his book Keys to Success: The 17 Principles of Personal Achievement. I think these two quotes summarize this principle very well.
"Tell me how you use your time and how you spend your money, and I will tell you where and what you’ll be ten years from now." ~ Napoleon Hill
"Waste neither time nor money, but make the best use of both." ~ Benjamin Franklin.
Routine task easily expand and can get out of hand. Allot your time in the following manner to make sure that you are able to do all the things you need to. It is necessary to allow 8 hours for sleep and 8 hours for work plus commute time so the rest of your time is at your disposal. Be conscious on how you spend your time for 6 days a week. Take one day for nothing but relaxation, quality time with friends/family, and religious/philosophical activities.
Below is a recommendation from Napoleon Hill’s Keys to Success:
Spend an hour a day in quite meditation on the following subjects:
Your plan for your definite major purpose.
Contact with Infinite Intelligence, affirming your gratitude for the blessings you have.
Self-analysis; identifying the fears you need to master and making plans for doing so
Ways to increase harmony in all your relationships.
The things you desire instead of the things you don’t want
Devote 2 hours to going the extra mile by rendering some sort of service to your community, your spouse, or your family without expecting any kind of reward for it.
Study and read for self-improvement for 1 hour.
Spend 1 hour in contact with members of your mastermind alliance or close personal friends.
This is just food for thought, but may serve to help you decide how to allocate your time to focus on your major definite purpose and those activities you deem most important.
